The family of Permanent residents will have a visa of spouse or children of permanent residents.
Also, if your family has already met the requirements, they could apply permanent residents visa as well as you.
※For easier reading, I use abbreviation words. Please check the following words list first. They are not official abbreviations just for convenience.
Permanent residence visa = PR visa
Dependent family visa = DP visa
Spouse and children of PR visa = SCP visa
Spouse and children of Japanese national visa= SCJ visa
・Currently my family is DP visa And would like to apply PR visa with me.
If they meet the basic requirements, they may be allowed with you.
Spouse : Over 1 year of Japanese residence period, Over 3 years marriage period.
Children: Over 1 year of Japanese residence period
・Currently my family is SCP visa. What are the requirements to apply PR visa?
They could apply when they meet the requirements.
Spouse : Over 1 year of Japanese residence period, Over 3 years marriage period.
Children: Over 1 year of Japanese residence period
・What about newborn child?
PR resident’s Children born in Japan have right to apply PR visa since they born.
You need to apply newborn child to immigration office in 30 days of birth. They may acquire PR visa as well as you. If you don’t apply in 30days, they will not acquire the PR visa. In this case, They will have only the SCP visa and need to wait 1year resident period.
・I don’t intend to apply PR visa. Can only family member (DP visa) apply PR visa?
No, they can’t. the requirements of DP visa is that DP visa family members must be financially supported of work visa or other visa residents. That is why the visa is called dependent visa. Therefore, it is called a dependent visa, and they alone do not meet the financial capacity requirement. So, they need to apply with their supporting spouse or parent.
If your spouse has work visa or aother visa and has met to apply for PR visa on each visa, they could apply by themselves.
・I am PR resident /Japanese national, however my spouse is work visa.
Does he/she have to wait for 5 years work periods?
Spouse of permanent residents or Japanese nationals will be considered they have SCP visa or SCJ visa when they apply PR visa.
In other word, their current VISA doesn’t have to be a SCP visa or SCJ visa.
If your spouse has already met requirement years of SCP visa or SCJ visa, they could apply PR visa. Children as well.
